Inventor of many machines such as one for calculating astronomical dates and one for Hebrew grammar
William Oughtred (1574-1660)
Credited as inventor of the slide rule in 1622
Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)
Constructed a mechanical calculator capable of addition and subtraction, called the Pascaline
Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716)
Discovered the binary number system, anticipated Lagrangian interpolation, algorithmic information theory, and invented the calculus ratiocinator as well as a machine that could execute all four arithmetical operations, the Stepped Reckoner
Philipp Matthäus Hahn (1739-1790)
Designed the first functional mechanical calculator
Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier (1768-1830)
Best known for initiating the investigation of Fourier series and their applications to problems of heat transfer and vibrations
Joseph Marie Jacquard (1752-1834)
Inventor the earliest programmable loom
