It provides services related to driving safety and vehicle safety. Its driving safety segment is focused on child safety, aggressive driving, impaired driving, occupant protection, community traffic safety, school buses, and teen drivers. The vehicle safety segment is focused on vehicle safety equipment, brakes, test procedures, and more. Additionally it provides research, laws and legislations, data, and information related to its area of focus. NHTSA was established by the Highway Safety Act of 1970 and is dedicated to achieving the highest standards of excellence in motor vehicle and highway safety. It works daily to help prevent crashes and their attendant costs, both human and financial. NHTSA is based in Washington, District of Columbia.
