Akash Systems, Inc. design and make some of the world's most energy efficient RF Power Amplifiers, and the CubeSats (small LEO orbital satellites) enabled by them. Their innovation is made possible by breakthrough materials they use: gallium nitride (GaN)-on-Diamond wafers. In GaN-on-Diamond, the hottest parts of a transistor is brought to within tens of nanometers of diamond - the world's most thermally conductive material. The effect is a cooler state of operation - dramatically improving energy efficiency, reducing a system's size, weight, and operating costs. They pioneered GaN-on-Diamond over the course of the last decade before they were acquired. At Akash, they use their proprietary GaN-on-Diamond to help satellite communications reach out to the terabit regime. They operate as a fabless company, outsourcing all their manufacturing to US foundries.
