Bio/Description
Designer of CBASIC and CP/M tools, Eubanks is recognized as a microcomputer industry pioneer and one of the founding figures of the personal computer software era.
While serving in the U.S. Navy, Eubanks attended Gary Kildall's programming class at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California in the early 1970s. This experience proved transformative, drawing him into the nascent world of microcomputer software development.
Eubanks went on to write BASIC-E, an early BASIC compiler for the CP/M operating system, which became widely used in the hobbyist and early business computing communities. He later founded Compiler Systems, which marketed BASIC-E and its successor products. His work in this period helped establish the commercial viability of language tools for microcomputers.
He subsequently joined Digital Research, where he worked closely with Kildall and contributed to the company's expanding product line. Eubanks later became chief executive officer of Symantec Corporation, a position he held from 1984–1999. Under his leadership, Symantec grew from a small software startup into one of the most prominent security and utilities software companies in the world. His tenure there defined much of the company's strategic direction during a critical period of industry growth.
