Bio/Description

A 1948 Purdue graduate, he served on active duty with the U. S. Navy from 1943 until 1957. During the early 1950's, he directed work involving airborne fire-control systems, underwater acoustics, and infrared and magnetic detecting devices. Upon leaving the service in 1957, he joined Daystrom Inc. and, in 1963, accepted a position with Control Data Corporation (CDC) where he served as a Senior Operating and Marketing Executive at Control Data Corporation until 1975. As Vice President and group General Manager of the Computer Systems and Development Group of Control Data, he directed six operating divisions. He was responsible for all computer systems for the company and for the technical direction and administration of computer and memory development programs. From 1975 to 1986, he was Chairman, President and CEO of Commercial Credit Company. After that time, he joined two other companies. He became Chairman, CEO, Secretary and Treasurer of Large Storage Configurations, Inc. and in November, 1987he joined Steve S. Chen who founded SuperComputer Systems, Inc., serving as the Chairman of the Board until 1995. He was one of LSC Incorporated Directors from 1992 to December 1999 and then served as Chairman of the Board. He was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board since its formation in March 1997; and as Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board since its formation in February 2000. From 1995 to 1999 he also served as Chairman of the Board of Merrill Corporation. He is a past Director of Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, Bon Secours Health System, Inc., Constellation Holdings, Inc., Control Data Corporation, First National Bank of Minneapolis and JiffyLube, Inc. He was named a Purdue Distinguished Engineering Alumnus in 1968.
