Ms. Carol A. Jones

The technical leader for IBM Workplace in the Software Group, IBM, Westford, Massachusetts, she was one of eight employees to be named an IBM Fellow on May 24, 2006. She was the visionary and technical leader for WebSphere Portal driving the initiative across IBM. She made outstanding contributions to IBM in the areas of collaboration and user-experience, driving new technologies into innovative products for the company. She was responsible for delivering the first releases of WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Studio, establishing IBM's entrance into these new market segments. Her efforts were central to establishing IBM as the industry leader for portals. She continues to seek out emerging industry patterns, and draws together teams of thought leaders to consider how these new techniques or capabilities could enrich IBM's product offerings. Currently, she is the technical leader for IBM Workplace, the company's collaborative portal solution. At the 2007 IBM, Microsoft Show Web 2.0 Wares she is quoted as saying, ?This is a big area and growing [within IBM]. That's the point of this announcement?to make it clear that we think this is the way of the future. We are eager to adopt Web 2.0 very broadly and in the future with other technologies that would incorporate these technologies.? She pointed to IBM technologies that are producing large amounts of data -Tivoli's systems management software, for example - that would be prime targets for Web 2.0 capabilities. ?About a year ago we unlocked the data in Domino and we ship that as feeds,? she said. ?Once we did that, we realized that [data] could be unlocked in a lot of areas.?
