Professor Benjamin B. Bederson

An Associate Professor of Computer Science and from 2000-2006, the Director of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, his work is on Information Visualization, Interaction Strategies, and Digital Libraries, as well as accessibility issues such as Voting System Usability. He has been selected to be part of the Association for Computing Machinery?s CHI Academy, an honorary group of individuals who have made substantial contributions to the field of human-computer interaction and is recognized as one of the principal leaders in this field. He, along with Phil Resnik and Chris Callison-Burch (of Johns Hopkins), has been awarded a Google Research Award for their project "Translate the World: A Unified Framework for Crowdsourcing Translation. He has three degrees in Computer Science. He received his undergraduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and his MS and PhD from New York University. Among his many publications are several contributions to the Children Digital Libraries.
