Bio/Description
Founder of Soronko Academy, the first coding and human-centered design school for children and young adults in West Africa, Honu was a Ghanaian social entrepreneur and software developer who also established Soronko Solutions, a software development company in Ghana. Her work centered on gender equity and digital technology innovation in the region.
Honu received widespread recognition for her contributions, including being named by CNN as one of 12 inspirational women who rock STEM, one of six women making an impact in tech in Africa, and one of ten female entrepreneurs to watch in emerging economies. Her story was featured in Sheryl Sandberg's book "Lean In," and she was named the 2016 Vlisco Brand Ambassador.
Her work attracted coverage from CNN African Voices, BBC, Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera, and the Impatient Optimist blog by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In an interview with CNN's African Start-Up, she was described as a Ghanaian tech guru who wanted to develop the next generation of women in technology.
