Bio/Description
Architect, engineer, and constructor of MCI's network, Liebhaber retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of MCI Communications, Inc. ("MCI") in 1995, where he also managed the establishment of a number of joint ventures, including Concert, the joint venture between MCI and BT Group plc. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University in 1954. He has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of MCI Communications Corporation from July 1992 to May 1995.
Prior to joining MCI in 1985, he served as IBM's director of Business Policy and Development after serving in engineering, manufacturing, product test, service, and marketing positions from 1954 to 1985. He has also served on the Board of Directors of ILOG S.A., a software company, from December 2000 to December 2008. Liebhaber served as Director of Soapstone Networks Inc. from June 1997 to July 31, 2009, and as its Chairman from May 26, 2005. On August 10, 2011, he notified the Company that he would not stand for re-election at the 2011 Annual Meeting of Stockholders held on November 16, 2011.
He has also served as a Director of Cogent Communications Group, Inc. (and as Chairman of their Audit Committee) from March 24, 2006. Other positions Liebhaber has held included: Chief Executive Officer of Linguateq, Inc.; Managing Director of Veronis Suhler Stevenson (alternate name Veronis, Suhler & Associates Inc.), from June 1995 to August 2001; Director of Internet Communications Corp. from May 1997; Chairman and Director of Wyndstorm Corporation; Director of JDSU (formerly, JDS Uniphase Corp.) from November 2001; and Director of Agility Communications, Inc. from November 2001.
Additional positions he has held included: Vice Chairman of the WPAS (Washington Performing Arts Society); Director of Syndeo Corporation and CAS Communications, Inc.; Director of Precision Systems, Inc., St. Petersburg, Florida (telecommunications) and Richardson, TX (manufacturing communications); Director of Rare Medium Group; Director of Koor Industries Ltd.; Independent Director at BTI Systems Inc. (formerly BTI Photonic Systems Inc.); Independent Director of White Rock Networks, Inc.; and Director of Geotek Communications, Inc. from 1995.
Liebhaber has also served as a Director of ECI Telecom Ltd., an Israel-based telecommunications equipment company, from May 2002; Director of Qwest Communications International, Inc., from 1995 to 2000; Director at First Avenue Networks Inc.; and Director at Transworld Communications and Transmedia Communications. He has been a Member of the Advisory Board at Greenwich Technology Partners, Inc., and a Member of the Board of Directors of Internet Photonics, Alcatel-Lucent Holding Inc., FiberTower Corporation, Linguateq, Inc., SkyTerra Communications Inc., Mobile Satellite Ventures, LP, Rapid5 Networks, Inc., Ucentric Systems Inc., Ceyba Inc., and TPC Liquidation Inc.
He has also served as a Member of the Advisory Board of Polaris Venture Partners, Inc. and Telesoft Partners, and as a Member of the Supervisory Board of KPNQwest N.V. Liebhaber has additionally served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Sylantro Systems Corporation, Telera Corporation, Alcatel Network Systems, Inc., Visiting Nurse Service of New York, and Scholz Master Builders.
