Bio/Description

Author of the landmark 2018 book "Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism," Noble brought rigorous academic scrutiny to the ways search engine algorithms can perpetuate racism and discrimination. She became the David O. Sears Presidential Endowed Chair of Social Sciences and took the role of Professor of Gender Studies and African American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Noble co-founded the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry, and her broader research focuses on the intersection of technology, media, race, and gender. She was recognized as a MacArthur Fellow.
