Carl Allan Sunshine

Co-developer of TCP/IP, the protocol that gave the Internet its name, Sunshine worked alongside DARPA engineers Vint Cerf and Yogen Dalal in the mid-70s to develop Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol — a means for networks to "internetwork," hence the name "Internet." Over the years, the number of connected terminals bloomed, and new networks outside of ARPAnet popped up. All of this set the stage for the World Wide Web, proposed by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 as a collection of Internet documents viewable in a browser.

Five years later, the first Web browser in Mosaic Netscape 0.9 was implemented. Springing from that, "Web 2.0" arrived, a term for participatory sites like Digg, Facebook, and Flickr.
