Company Description
Mission is to provide actionable decision support to clinicians for the personalized management of patients with complex chronic disease.
Ariel is an integrated genomic and digital health company that moves genetics beyond a test into a precision medicine tool, leveraging advanced data analytics and machine learning technology to help people with chronic diseases. Genetic results from our proprietary test and each patient's clinical history are integrated into our bioinformatic platform, providing context for understanding what is triggering that patient's symptoms; enabling early diagnosis, preemptive action and targeted management. Chronic diseases place a significant burden on patients and the health care system. The 117 million affected patients account for $2.3 trillion in annual healthcare expenditures. A majority of these expenditures result from end stage disease complications requiring complex management programs and expensive therapies. Pancreatic diseases, like diabetes, pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis, are ideal for the application of such an approach. Two million new patients are diagnosed with some form of pancreatic disease annually and account for $250 billion in spending, a figure that increases every year. Pancreatitis (painful inflammation of the pancreas) is Ariel Precision Medicine's initial focus. Pancreatitis results in 1.4 million ambulatory visits, 1.3 million hospital days, and is associated with 500,000 discharges. The five-year survival rate is 59%, markedly lower than more recognized diseases like prostrate and breast cancer, which have survival rates exceeding 90%. Notably, 1 in 4 diabetics and 1-2 in 10 pancreatic cancer patients had pancreatitis within three years of diagnosis Ariel's founder Dr. David Whitcomb is one of the worlds leading experts in this space and with his insight, Ariel Precision Medicine is poised to make significant changes in complex diseases, starting with the pancreas. While headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, ARIEL has an office within the Hudson/Alpha Institute for Biotechnology, a 152 acre campus located in Huntsville, Alabama that is shared by some of the world's 'genomics thought leaders', forward-thinking entrepreneurs and inventive educators. We are leveraging their state-of-the-art Genomic Services Laboratory to develop and validate each of our tests prior to commercialization. The HudsonAlpha laboratories provide access to the most advanced scientific tools available in the field.
