The website was launched in 1998 by Femme Taken, a computer enthusiast, under the name World of Tweaking. It publishes news, reviews, and video reports about technology subjects with a strong focus on the Netherlands. In addition, it also features reviews, bi-monthly guides, and classifieds for jobs and used hardware. As of March 6, 2006, Tweakers.net is a subsidiary of VNU Business Publications B.V.
