Hardware Description
This was a large general-purpose computer, which used ICs throughout, from Fujitsu. It was developed in March 1968. It not only had performance 4 to 10 times that of the previous FACOM 230-50 Model, but also enhanced online data processing capabilities. In order to achieve superior cost performance, this computer led the world in pioneering revolutionary new technology, using the multiprocessor (2 CPU) system and employing monolithic ICs throughout. The multiprocessor system in particular was comprised of multiple CPUs (2 CPUs in the case of the FACOM 230-60) which shared a main memory unit and input/output devices, and was fundamentally different from conventional composite computer systems. Thus the FACOM 230-60 pioneered a new era for large computers.
