Scripting and Programming Languages

Introduction Here is a brief guide to available scripting and programming languages. It is not complete (I won't cover IRAF scripting here), and of course I'm sure to have missed out favourite languages. Scripting languages are programming languages designed to make programming tasks easier. If you write a Perl or Python (or even tcl or Ruby) script, then you won't have to compile the script to run the program.
