Description of Resource:
It can seem as if digital magazines have just appeared as an application on the web or Apple's iPad or iPhone, but there have been many attempts at creating such a medium going back decades. This history in the form of a timeline sets out the developments in hardware, software and published product in the UK, which tends to mirror developments in the US and Europe. A separate page also covers digital magazine software developers such as Ceros, Exact Editions and Zinio, who use a 'platform' to turn printed magazines (often from PDF files created in the print production process) into a digital format, sometimes called 'living magazines'.
