Dr. Anant Jhingran

Considered to be the world technology leader in the field of information management with highly demonstrated impact on industrial practice and future technology and business directions, his achievements are well recognized by his peers, as well as by senior management at IBM. Originally from India, he received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Delhi in 1985 where he was the recipient of the President of India?s Gold Medal. He subsequently received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990. Since earning his Ph.D., he has had a meteoric career at IBM Corporation with numerous recognitions in research and technology leadership. He received the designation of IBM Fellow - IBM's highest technical honor; recipients are selected for sustained and distinguished technical achievements in engineering, programming and technology. He was recognized for establishing IBM?s data warehousing technology and business and other critical businesses such as search, e-commerce and Big Data. He served as Vice President and Chief-Technical-Officer (CTO) for IBM?s Information Management Division, which was a large part of IBM?s $22B/yr. Software Group. He was also the Co-Chair of IBM wide Cloud Computing Architecture Board. He was responsible for the technical strategy of products and solutions in databases, content management, and business intelligence and information integration. Prior to that, he led the IBM team designing and building solutions to meet the requirements of business analytics on structured and unstructured data. He has also been the Director of Computer Science at the IBM Almaden Research Center and before that, Senior Manager for e-Commerce and data management at IBM's T. J. Watson Research Center. In recognition of his contributions, he has frequently been called upon to present in IBM and industry/academic conferences. He has keynoted at several academic conferences, such as Conference on Very Large Data Bases and the World Wide Web Conference, as well as in leading industry conferences such as the Hadoop Summit. He has participated in over ten conferences on cloud and information management in 2011 alone. He also received the IBM Distinguished Engineer award and the IBM Academy of Technology award, plus several Outstanding Achievement and Innovation Awards and the IBM Corporate Award. In addition, IIT Delhi recognized him for the outstanding contributions he made as a Corporate Leader and Researcher, stating: ?Through his achievements, he has brought glory to the name of the Institute.? They presented him with the IIT Delhi Distinguished Alumnus Award and the President's Gold Medal at IIT Delhi. His research and innovation results are reflected in over 25 academic papers and over a dozen patents, ranging in all areas of information management and e-commerce. After 21 years at IBM he left to join Apigee in San Jose, California where he is currently Vice President of Data & Analytics, helping to drive that business.
