The SysOps Committee builds and runs the technology behind ITHS. It leads development of our website and database in service of the programming goals in our Operating Plan, which the Board and committees update from time to time.

It also looks after the Society’s systems and digital assets, so the other committees can focus on mission, content, and community.

What the committee does

Development

Designing and building new features for the website and database, as the Operating Plan defines them.

Data science

Coordinating with the Curation and Editorial Committees so that our data work meets or exceeds academic and professional standards.

Collaboration and deployment

A version-controlled pipeline that lets data science contributors, software authors, and designers work together, with review suited to AI-assisted code. Plus monitoring, alerting, and incident response.

Hosting and environments

Servers, cloud services, and the development, staging, and production copies of our sites.

Security and backups

Timely patching, regular tested backups, and clear recovery procedures.

Access

Credentials, admin and editor permissions, and onboarding and offboarding for staff, volunteers, and vendors.

Domains and email

Registrations, DNS, and email at ithistory.org.

Documentation and advice

Clear records of systems and procedures, support for the other committees, and advice to the Board on technical risks and opportunities.
