2026
Committee

The Development Committee helps make sure the IT History Society’s work deserves support, and that the people and organizations who would want to support it know we exist.

It helps shape the Society’s goals and plans, explains clearly what our work contributes to public understanding of technology, and introduces ITHS to individual donors and charitable organizations whose missions align with ours.

What the committee does

  • Works with the Board to shape the Society’s goals and plans, so that our public service is focused, credible, and worthy of support.
  • Communicates our work and its value to society: what we do, why it matters, and what each gift makes possible.
  • Makes our work known to individual donors and foundations whose missions align with ours, and helps them see how our initiatives serve their goals.
  • Pursues grants and institutional funding, with help from members experienced in grant writing.
  • Makes sure supporters are thanked and recognized appropriately on the website and in our publications.
  • Evaluates fundraising programs, such as page sponsorships, and recommends what to keep, change, or retire.

About the name: in the nonprofit world, “development” is the usual word for fundraising. Software development at ITHS belongs to the SysOps Committee.
