Our Mission

Share the untold stories of computing.

The history of information technology is usually told through the most celebrated inventors and devices. We are here for the rest of the story: the pioneers whose pivotal contributions never got the credit they deserved, and the people who actually used early computers. We aim to engage the curious public by being accessible, relevant, and exciting.

A platform for everyone

We are building a permanent and searchable home for stories of computing from grass-roots contributors and academics alike. When you add what you remember, it won't disappear into an algorithmic feed. You are backed by a not-for-profit since 1977 that has been working to keep stories like yours alive.

Through our email newsletter and public social media, our Honor Committee introduces readers to the major and the lesser-known figures behind the pivotal achievements of computing, the celebrated and the overlooked alike.

And because no one knows a subject like the people devoted to it, we are building a system where expert niche moderators manage sub-domains of the site. From Cray to Commodore, from acoustic modems to arcade games, we welcome passionate enthusiasts alongside distinguished scholars to keep each corner of the record accurate and trustworthy.

Guiding Principles

Capture living memory
Interviews, live panels, and member contributions that record firsthand accounts before they are lost.
Write to be read
Clear, well-sourced stories aimed at curious enthusiasts, not only academic readers.
Curate selectively
Thoughtful, accountable consideration over unbounded accumulation, with responsible use of images and sources.
Support colleague institutions
We collaborate with other historical organizations and point to their work rather than duplicating it.
Honor the overlooked
We actively seek out the unrecognized contributors and the gaps in the historical record.
Build community
Host online discussions and live events that bring collectors, enthusiasts, and pioneers together.

Founded by legends. Powered by volunteers. Open to everyone.

Our board and committees work purely for the love of our field. Joining our society is the most direct way to support our efforts.
