Dr. Rahul Sud is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lattice Semiconductor Corp (Nasdaq: LSCC) the world's first fabless semiconductor company,. Rahul Sud incorporated Lattice Semiconductor in Tigard, Oregon in 5-6-1983 \,raising $ 1.1 million from Oregon entrepreneurs Norman Winnigstad, Chairman Floating Point Systems), Harry Merlo (Chairman Louisiana Pacific Corporation),Tom Moyer, Owner Moyer Theatres, John Piacentini,Owner Seven Eleven stores ,Oregon, Jerry Pratt, businessman ,and Max Birnbach, Owner, Roses Delicatessen, Portland Oregon.
Dr. Rahul Sud was voted Man of the Year Semiconductor Memories USA (Electronics Magazine ,NY) ,and received the TOBIE(Technology or Business Innovation in Electronics) award in London for the world’s fastest Static Random Access Memory (SRAM),a kind of memory which occupies 50% of 99% of semiconductor chips in the world . His 11 Memory patents were licensed by his employer for over % 2.5 Billion in royalty income and created a revolution in the memory industry. Rahul was twice on the cover of Electronics magazine USA and Nikkei Electronics, Japan. Rahul revolutionized the memory industry a second time by putting in production the world's first commercial memory with on-chip redundancy, thereby reducing the production cost by 3 times. These techno-commercial innovations disrupted and obsoleted the entire sector and killed market leader Intel, causing Intel’s exit from the SRAM market. Rahul went on to create 3 additional memory revolutions of a total 6 worldwide that have impacted $100's of Billions of semiconductor and $ Trillions in end user electronics industry.
Rahul received his post graduate education (MS, MSEE, Ph.D.) in Physics& Space Sciences, Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences and Microelectronics at respectively Florida Institute of Technology, University of California Berkeley & Stanford University.
• Rahul has pioneered 4 of the total 6 silicon memory revolutions. Silicon Memory, invented by Intel in 1970, is ubiquitous to the multi-trillion world electronics industry without which there would be no ICT.
• Intel thereafter appointed Rahul as Director of Memory Engineering, where he developed and brought to production the world's first pseudo static RAM, a kind of memory used in all mobile phones.
• Rahul left Intel to found Lattice semiconductor Corporation(Nasdaq:LSSC) where he invented the world's first high volume production nonvolatile memory process the Lattice UltraMOS process .Lattice took 100% of the world's Programmable Array Logic(PAL) market ,obsoleting ,and acquiring 100% of market leader Silicon valley company Monolithic Memories Inc and the PAL division of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Ultramos remains to this day Lattice Semiconductor's proprietary production technology .
• Rahul contemporaneously pioneered a new business model at Lattice, viz. the 'fabless' semiconductor business model. Copied by the world, the fabless model is today a $ 100 Billion industry and the business model of 90% of the industry's companies, including the giant telecom/internet/artificial intelligence chip market leaders Qualcomm, Broadcom and NVidia . (For reference: Xilinx was the world's second fabless company (Founded by Ross Freeman, S. Jose, California, 2-2-1984. The concept of the silicon foundry /TSMC emerged subsequent to Lattice's fabless business model innovation founded by Morris Chang,Taiwan,4-28-1987)
• Rahul was Vice President of General Instruments, where he was instrumental in re-positioning and reinvigorating its PIC Microcontroller family and spinning of its semiconductor division into an independent company Microchip technology, Chandler, ,Arizona (Nasdaq: MCHP)
• Rahul was Vice President, Memory Products Group & New Ventures, ST Microelectronics .He wrote the business plan and built and operated its Flash memory division from zero to $1.5Billion /year. Rahul built the world's first 2000 engineers semiconductor design operation in India for STM, since copied by 80% of the world's semiconductor companies.
• Rahul has recently contributed to the development and production of complex system on chips/Software for Internet of Things such as Bluetooth Low Energy for the Swatch Group. He has developed special purpose memories for chips used by the world's largest hearing aid company, Phonak .He has developed special purpose ultrahigh temperature (200C) memories for German automotive customers.
• Rahul is currently developing entrepreneurial initiatives to increase energy efficiency of power semiconductors by 10X, with a plan to revolutionize and disrupt Electric Vehicle driving range/cost, solar energy conversion cost, 10X data center energy reduction, robotics and much the $ 90billion power electronics market .
